Photographers & Artists

Looking at a few artists whose style influence me and work I could draw inspiration from.

Irving Penn

Irving Penn (June 16, 1917 – October 7, 2009) was an American photographer known for his portraiture and fashion photography. Known mostly for his portrait and fashion work I find his still life and macro work just as interesting. I think that his series on cigarette ends are really interesting and something I could attempt using discarded, tattered items. Also his work looking at the human form, for example the women in the corset and the hand in strong black and white, something again I could try

Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodman (April 3, 1958 - January 19, 1981) was an American photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring herself and female models. Her work is a slight detraction from what I want to do in this project as I want to steer clear of focusing on human form, however her abstract style and use of lighting and themes in her work is something I could definitely draw from.

Karl Blossfeldt

Karl Blossfeldt (June 13, 1865 – December 9, 1932) was a German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist who worked in Berlin, Germany. He is best known for his close-up photographs of plants. I find his work really interesting due to the simplicity yet complexity of them. His stark black and white studio photos of the interesting plants focus on the texture and composition of the plants, creating patterns and movement with in the still items.
