Nick Vasey: Untitled

Picture
Nick Vasey is an abstract photographer who incorporates a wide variety of techniques into his work, including microscope work, x-ray, long exposure and varying types of cameras and coloured prints. Although his technique may vary it is present in most of his work that the structure and shapes created and present in his objects are an over all theme, and in tern influence how he presents his work. Most of his photographers are presented in varying patterns and positions that reflect each of the shapes within the photos, for example here we see the lines created through a long exposure along the bottom, whilst the larger circular image presented on top. This focus on presentation is key to his work and make for amazing and interesting collages of his wide array of work.

Abstract Selection

Taking what I had gathered from the artist and my previous sets, here I took a slightly different look at my macro work on objects. I took an array of natural objects, some in the studio and some outside and tried distorting the images slightly to see if the focus on form and structure were still present. To achieve this effect I had a wide aperture with a reasonable long shutter speed and would either shake the camera or wave my hand in front of the lens. I think this created a more abstract and artistic element to my work and the idea of placing them into sets and playing with the presentation is going to influence my choices in my final piece.
